Use a measured density when it matters

Remember the water anchor
1 US liquid quart of water weighs about 2.09 lb. Use that as a sanity check: anything much heavier per quart is denser than water (syrup, honey, salt), anything much lighter is not (flour, oil, oats).
US liquid and US dry quarts are different
A US dry quart is about 16% larger than a US liquid quart. Use US qt (liq.) for liquids and most everyday measures, and US qt (dry) when a pantry or canning source explicitly means dry measure.

Zero is a legal answer
A zero volume or weight is perfectly valid and simply converts to zero. Only negative values are rejected — clear the field and re-enter if you see an error.

To find the weight in pounds, multiply the volume in US liquid quarts by the density in g/mL and by the ratio 946.352946 / 453.59237:

Where the constants come from
A US liquid quart is exactly one quarter of the US gallon, which is defined as 231 cubic inches — that works out to precisely 946.352946 mL. The avoirdupois pound is defined as exactly 453.59237 g. So one US liquid quart of water (density 1 g/mL) weighs 946.352946 ÷ 453.59237 = 2.086351 lb. These definitions come from the US customary quart definitions and the international avoirdupois pound.
The other quart units are handled the same way: a US dry quart is exactly 1101.220942715 mL and a UK quart is exactly 1136.5225 mL, so switching the unit simply changes which volume each quart represents before the same density math runs.
Why density in g/mL works cleanly here
Because 1 mL of water has a mass of 1 g, a density in tells you the mass of one milliliter of that ingredient. Multiplying the quart's milliliters by that number gives grams, then dividing by 453.59237 converts to pounds.
